Spectrum Dental Society is a Study Club led by highly-accredited and renowned prosthodontists Dr. Bradley Purcell, Dr. Ryan Mizumoto, and Dr. Mohamed Abdelhamed. All three doctors are graduates of the Advanced Prosthodontics Residency at The Ohio State University and have more than 45 years of combined experience. Study Club Director Lauren Olding has more than a decade of clinical, practice management, and dental assistant teaching experience. The mission of the SDS Study Club is to foster professional relationships through innovative, practical, and high-quality continuing education opportunities. An elite group of distinguished dental professionals develops and teach evidence-based dental courses with the ultimate goal of helping clinicians deliver the highest level of patient care. The SDS is an approved PACE Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) Program Provider and a biennial sponsor of the Ohio State Dental Board.
We pride ourselves on delivering an extensive array of both didactics and hands-on courses to our valued members. In-person and online course topics include complete dentures, digital dentistry, dental photography, dental technology advancements, restorative dentistry, facial aesthetics, state certification in OSHA and radiology, practice management, hygienist and dental assisting, and more.
Implant mini-residency sessions focus on multiple anterior and posterior implant restorations, as well as systems for single posterior implant restorations, including planning, cementation, occlusion management, and long-term follow-up care. This course also covers planning and management of the edentulous mandible including hybrid and overdenture options.
Dr. Brad Purcell received his dental degree with honors from Marquette University School of Dentistry in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He also graduated with honors and received his specialty in Prosthodontics and Masters of Science degree from The Ohio State University, School of Dentistry. As a student he was in Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society and the National Jesuit Honor Society. As a student, he was awarded the “Outstanding Clinician” award, the “Outstanding Performance and Professionalism” award and the “Outstanding Performance in the Science of Occlusion and Temporomandibular Joint Function” award.
Dr. Ryan Mizumoto was born and raised in Seattle, Washington and attended the University of California- San Diego on a soccer scholarship. He received his dental degree with honors from Case Western Reserve and completed a 1-year Hospital-Based General Practice Residency at Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago. Dr. Mizumoto practiced as a general dentist for five years in Cleveland before pursuing his passion and returning to school for formal training in Prosthodontics.
Dr. Mohamed Abdelhamed was born and raised in Egypt and received his dental degree from Cairo University in 1996. He completed a Hospital-Based Internship at Cairo University Hospital the following year and then served as a general dentist in the military before deciding to pursue a specialty degree in prosthodontics. He attended the Suez Canal University School of Dentistry for his training in prosthodontics and was appointed as a clinical faculty member in the department of Prosthodontics immediately following.
Lauren Olding has more than 11 years of experience in the dental field, including in general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and oral surgery. She started as a dental assistant, then went on to get her Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) license. Lauren was the clinical director for a multimillion-dollar dental group in the central Ohio area and continued to practice as an EFDA. As the co-owner and co-founder of Columbus Dental Assisting, she has made a positive impact on the lives of countless students pursuing careers in dental assisting. After welcoming a child, she stepped back from managing the multi-million dollar dental group and joined the Spectrum team as the director of the SDS Study Club.
